CYCLETREE

Royal Society of Arts Competition [Ravensbourne 2009]

Cycle Tree makes use of empty spaces in urban areas by storing bikes ‘mid-air’. Its design minimises the threat of theft and damage by taking bikes above street level and away from reach. The metal structure supports eight branches which hold in total 16 bikes vertically.

Each bike is stored using a bike hook and safety cable which ensures the bike and its accessories are securely held, but kept away from risk of theft and vandalism down at street level.

Users don’t require any special cards or key codes to ‘lock up’ their bike. All a cyclist needs is a card of some type which has a magnetic strip on the back. This allows almost anybody to use the Cycle Tree, but especially the target audience of commuting city workers or urban city dwellers aged 18+.
